If you change anything relating to speakers, it changes your output to speakers. The only issue is the lack of mic-support to mix with the game sound, but that is easily remedied by using a splitter and putting the chat sound into the line-in of the soundblaster and the mic into the mic part of the splitter.

Honestly, the surround actually sounds more accurate than the Mixamp on both the PC AND the console, which is really saying something. I can't comment on the speaker taps.įor consoles, you can just use the optical in and it will turn on Dolby Digital. The headphone amp reaches 1.5W, which doesn't give a lot of headroom for planars, but can drive everything short of the HE-6 pretty well. The DAC chip being used is actually a very very good one (being the Burr-Brown PCM1794) and does its job quite well. With a press of a button, you can turn off the SBX processing used for surround and games, and listen to things unaltered by the sound processing. No more having to have mess with a soundcard, my normal dac, and an Astro Mixamp. Currently, I have my iphone hooked up through bluetooth, my pc through micro USB, my Xbone through the optical in, and my HE560 through the headphone out. Simply put, if you want an all in one device for all your stuff, this is the thing to have. There's also the beam mic, but that crap is next to useless honestly.īefore I hit the sound, I have to address the main drawing point and center piece of this unit: the functionality. It also has two sets of speaker tabs, RCA outs + rear/subwoofer outs for surround sound, RCA in (which goes into an ADC), optical in, optical out, usb host, and micro-usb in, a mic-in, and two headphone outs. The bottom of the unit has a little chamber so you can change out the OP amps in case you want something that presents a different tone or flavor to your audio. It has a giant ass turn knob that controls the signal of whatever is playing into it as opposed to controlling the volume it outputs. It's made from some durable plastic and covered with a matte finish, creating a sturdy, good looking unit.
It's a small, attractive, lightweight box. TL DR: Despite some features most people may not find useful, the Sound Blaster X7 actually gets a lot of things right with only a couple small issues. The X7.and not the limited edition (which is aimed for more powerful speakers and IEM use.neither of which I am a user of.) A good Sound Blaster product that is used for more than just its surround sound processing.
